Is a signing 100% legal and binding?
Yes. A marriage license is a legal contract. Fulfilling the question of intent in front of witnesses makes your marriage fully legal and recognized by the state.
How long does the signing take?
The entire process takes about 10 minutes from start to finish.
What identification do we need to bring?
The couple and both witnesses must bring a valid, government-issued photo ID, such as a driver's license or passport. Please ensure you also bring your original, unused marriage license wrapper/packet provided by the court.
Do we need to exchange rings or vows?
No. Rings and vows are completely optional. We only focus on the legal essentials required by the state of Oregon, which is a declaration of intent.
Can witnesses be provided?
Oregon law requires two witnesses to be present, and couples must bring their own. Witnesses can be friends, family members, or anyone over the age of 18.
Where do we get the marriage license?
You must obtain your marriage license from any county clerk's office in Oregon before your appointment. Please note that Oregon has a mandatory 3-day waiting period after the license is issued before you can get married. However, the county will waive the waiting period for a nominal fee.
How does our finalized marriage license get returned to the court?
Once everyone signs, we handle the rest! We will securely mail your completed license back to the court for official recording, so you do not have to worry about the mailing logistics.
